Operation Helping Hands

Operation Helping Hands Activated for Colombia Earthquake Relief
On August 10, a powerful 7.4-magnitude earthquake struck western Colombia near San José del Palmar in the department of Chocó. The quake was felt across Colombia, including in the capital city of Bogotá, as well as in neighboring countries.

The disaster has caused significant loss of life, injuries and widespread damage, leaving families and communities in urgent need of assistance. Rescue operations and damage assessments remain underway.

In response, United Way Miami and the Miami Herald/el Nuevo Herald have activated Operation Helping Hands to provide critical relief to those affected by this tragedy.

One hundred percent of donations made through Operation Helping Hands will fund critical relief supplies and services provided through nonprofit organizations actively responding on the ground.
