Florida Hardest-Hit Fund (HHF), the federal government has allocated funding to help pay the mortgages of qualified homeowners who are unemployed or underemployed through no fault of their own. Homeowners who qualify for financial assistance may receive up to six (6) months of monthly mortgage payments (including escrowed mortgage-related payments) and/or funds to pay past due mortgage payments to bring the mortgage current; these funds are paid directly to the loan servicer/lender. Our annual nonprofit conference, PHILANTHROPY Miami, has been expanded to include The Leadership Forum, held on 2/16/12 and to feature two tracks during PHILANTHROPY MIAMI, Basics and Advanced on 3/20/12.
-Hosted by Akerman Senterfitt, The Leadership Forum will include board leadership and senior non-profit leaders to explore concepts of social entrepreneurship and how they relate to the day-to-day work of nonprofits.
-Held at Jungle Island, PHILANTHROPY Miami will be a day-long event including "Basics," an intensive introduction to fundraising for professionals new to the field, and an "Advanced" track which will feature an engaging series of workshops on an array of topics and compelling keynotes.

TRAININGS, CONFERENCES, COMMUNITY MEETINGS

QPR Gatekeeper trainings, 1/10/12, 9 am, are community outreach workshops conducted by Switchboard of Miami, in coordination with the University of South Florida and the Florida Youth Suicide Prevention (FLYSP) Project Grant funded by SAMHSA. QPR stands for Question, Persuade and Refer - 3 simple steps that anyone can learn to help save a life from suicide. Training is free and lasts about two hours. Two CEUs are provided to licensed mental health professionals. Please feel free to attend one of our monthly QPR trainings at Switchboard (Second Tuesday of every month) or schedule a workshop to be held at your facility. QPR will be also offered in Spanish quarterly. As part of the FLYSP grant, anyone can refer a youth, ages 10-24, which is at risk of ending their life, to Switchboard of Miami for 30-, 60- and 90-day prevention follow-up for free. The Florida Youth Suicide Prevention Project is currently identifying professionals in the community to participate in a free QPRT Suicide Risk Assessment and Training Course. QPRT is an advanced online and multimedia course designed for all primary healthcare professionals, counselors, social workers, psychiatrist, substance abuse treatment providers, clinical pastoral counselors and licensed and certified professionals who evaluate and treat suicidal individuals. The training is for people actively working with youth (ages 10-24) on a daily basis and is not limited to a specific case load. Licensed Professionals can earn 10 Continuing Education Credits. We are targeting applicants in Miami-Dade County. If you are interested in this QPRT training or would like to elect someone in your organization for this training, please complete both the application and Memorandum of Understanding.The deadline to submit the application is 12/30/11. H0250 Homeownership Counseling Certification: Principles, Practices and Techniques Part I, 2/06/12 - 2/10/12, 8:30 am - 4 pm, Citibank, 8750 NW 36th Street, 1st floor, Doral, FL 33178. This training session is only open to nonprofit housing counseling agencies invited by Citibank. Certificates of completion are issued only to participants who have attended and completed 100 percent of the course. There is no charge for the training, but all other costs (travel, lodging, parking etc.) are at the participants' expense. A continental breakfast and lunch will be provided each day. Office space available - Quest Workspaces is offering local charities and nonprofits the opportunity to receive free office space. Charities have until 12/31/11 to apply for the rent-free space by completing the online questionnaire at Quest Workspaces. Space is available at all of the Quest facilities, including locations in Coral Gables, Brickell Avenue, Downtown Fort Lauderdale and Boca Raton. The selected nonprofit groups will receive free office space for between six months to a year, depending on availability. Applicants will be selected by a panel of Quest executives and current tenants. Quest flexible workspaces offers move-in ready executive office suites for short- and long-term rentals. Learn more.


NONPROFIT CAREER OPPORTUNITIES

In-School Coordinator - Overtown Youth Center is in need of a middle school coordinator. Responsibilities include case management services to students, assist teachers in classroom during school hours, coordinate meetings with teachers and homework assistance along with various activities during after-school programming. Enrichment Instructor (Drama) - Overtown Youth Center, responsibilities to provide creative and artistic opportunities for children/youth who have exhibited high performance capability in an intellectual, creative and/or artistic area, and who need services or activities not ordinarily provided to them. Post- High Coordinator (Part Time) - Overtown Youth Center, responsibilities include case management services for students transitioning into college, assist in college application preparation, identify scholarships, career and job readiness, and participate in annual college tour. Clubhouse Program Coordinator - YWCA of Greater Miami, , will be responsible for the overall daily operations and activities of the Computer Clubhouse Program, as well as the direct supervision of part-time activity counselors. Other responsibilities will include the direct implementation of program components, such as literacy, fitness, enrichment, social skills, technology and leadership that are funded to address the needs of at-risk teens and/or youth in middle and high school, and young adults. This position requires project planning, program design, service development, knowledge of other services that support youth and their families, participant recruitment, implementation, reporting and coordination of all program deliverables, as well as understanding of federal, state and local guidelines. Work hours would typically be Monday thru Friday, 10 am to 6 pm, but may change as program needs dictate to include some evenings and/or weekends. Demonstration School Teacher - United Way of Miami-Dade, will provide a safe and nurturing environment for children that encourages their social, emotional, physical and intellectual development, in collaboration with the Demonstration School Director and the Lead Teacher. Position will report to the Master Teacher. A minimum of a bachelor's degree or equivalent in early childhood education, child development, elementary education or early childhood special education that encompasses child development and learning of children, birth through kindergarten; family and community relationships; observing, documenting and assessing young children. Administrator, First Impressions - United Way of Miami-Dade, will ensure that guests are greeted with a professional and helpful attitude; answer and direct calls that come into the switchboard; follow established security procedures related to staff and guests regarding the use of access cards. Position will report to the Campus Operations Manager. Responsible for timely processing of daily incoming mail according to established procedures. Ensure that all cash and checks received through daily mail are properly segregated and recorded. Utilize the computerized reservation system for managing meeting rooms and invoices. Post daily schedule of meetings and coordinate with the Office Assistant for proper room set-up. Receive and log all deliveries and courier pick-ups, verify proper destination and coordinate delivery and receipt of packages. Childcare Teacher - Court Care Program - YWCA of Greater Miami, will be responsible for planning, supervising and implementing the Court Care Program in accordance with YWCA policies and procedures; implementing daily learning activities; maintaining and managing the program, its supplies and equipment. VOLUNTEER & OTHER OPPORTUNITIES

MDC Single Stop Mentoring Program, the program places a mentor and student in a two-year mentoring relationship to provide the student with the additional support needed to persist toward a college degree. For the mentor, it provides a volunteer opportunity tailored to fit the schedule of a working professional while providing the rewarding opportunity of assisting a student working toward their college degree. The process is simple - anyone living in the Miami area, who is 24 years or older and has completed a two-year college can apply. Fill out an application, attend a one-time mentor orientation and complete security screening. Once you have cleared these simple hurdles, you are matched with a student and will be expected to send one weekly email to your mentee and meet with them once a month at the MDC campus or MDC Single Stop sponsored event. Foster Care Review (FCR) is eager to recruit new citizen review panel volunteers to help make a difference in the lives of abused and abandoned children living in Miami-Dade's foster care system. Volunteer panel members spend one weekday per month reviewing the status of children and making recommendations to Miami's Juvenile Court and other concerned parties regarding each child's safety, well-being and permanency. FCR's volunteer panels provide caring and investigative oversight for each child, while information collected through our reviews helps FCR to advocate for system reform. FCR volunteers must be 25 years or older and must be a resident of Miami-Dade or Broward County. Background screening is required. No special skills are needed. Training will be provided.
