With tax season underway, individuals can access free tax preparation and filing services, as well as get information on eligibility requirements for the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) and other tax credits. To qualify, you must be a U.S. citizen or resident alien with a valid Social Security number. VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIESMDC Single Stop Mentoring Program, the program places a mentor and student in a two-year mentoring relationship to provide the student with the additional support needed to persist toward a college degree. For the mentor, it provides a volunteer opportunity tailored to fit the schedule of a working professional while providing the rewarding opportunity of assisting a student working toward their college degree. The process is simple - anyone living in the Miami area, who is 24 years or older and has completed a two-year college can apply. Fill out an application, attend a one-time mentor orientation and complete security screening. Once you have cleared these simple hurdles, you are matched with a student and will be expected to send one weekly email to your mentee and meet with them once a month at the MDC campus or MDC Single Stop sponsored event. Volunteer panel members spend one weekday per month reviewing the status of children and making recommendations to Miami's Juvenile Court and other concerned parties regarding each child's safety, well-being and permanency. FCR's volunteer panels provide caring and investigative oversight for each child, while information collected through our reviews helps FCR to advocate for system reform. FCR volunteers must be 25 years or older and must be a resident of Miami-Dade or Broward County. Background screening is required. No special skills are needed. Training will be provided.
