Summer BreakSpot - Learning does not end when school lets out and neither does the need for good nutrition! Free, nutritious meals like breakfast, lunch and snack are available for kids 18 and under all summer long through the Summer BreakSpot (part of the USDA Summer Food Service Program). Summer BreakSpot sites are sponsored by community organizations like schools, parks and recreation departments, and faith-based organizations, and are designed to bridge the nutrition gap by providing children and teens with balanced meals during the summer months. United Way of Miami-Dade Helps Families Cover Prescription Costs
- The FamilyWize prescription drug discount card is being distributed by United Way of Miami-Dade. For people with no health insurance, or those who need medications not covered by their insurance plan, this card could lower the cost by an average of 30 percent. There are no age, income or residency restrictions, no limit on how many times you can use it and no waiting to get a card. Nearly 1,000 United Ways in all 50 states are supporting this effort. To date, we have saved Miami-Dade residents over $2.5 million on their prescription medications. The Miami Foundation: GLBT Community Projects Fund - The Miami Foundation is accepting proposals for its grant program which supports organizations and programs that advance education and public awareness of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender issues in Greater Miami. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS)
- Administration for Children and Families (ACF), has released a notice of funding availability for "partnerships to demonstrate the effectiveness of supportive housing for families in the child welfare system" (hhs-2012-acf-acyf-ca-0538). A total of $35 million dollars will be awarded in five U.S. cities to support models similar to New York's Keeping Families Together initiative that integrated affordable housing, on-site case management, and an array of family support services. No match is required. Funding reflects a partnership between HHS, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and other private foundations. The notice will close 7/30/12. Health Foundation of South Florida
- Do you have a project that is focused on improving the health status of underserved populations in Broward, Miami-Dade and Monroe counties? If so, the Health Foundation invites you to apply for a grant. The total amount of a request should fall between $20,000 and $200,000 over the entire duration of the grant. NBC Universal Foundation in partnership with NBC Miami
- is creating 21st Century Solutions, a local grant challenge for nonprofit organizations implementing new and innovative programs. The winner will receive a $50,000 grant and two runners-up will each receive $25,000, totaling $100,000 in grants for Miami. The competitive grant challenge is open to eligible 501(c)(3) organizations that are implementing progressive programs, approximately less than three years old. 21st Century Solutions will accept applications for programs that are addressing new emerging challenges or ongoing issues in the areas of arts and media, civic engagement, jobs and economic empowerment, community development, technology and innovation, education, and environment. Qualifying nonprofit organizations must be physically located in and serve the NBC Miami television market, as defined as the terrestrial geographic viewing area in the counties of Miami-Dade, Broward and Monroe in the state of Florida. Miami-Dade County Grant Opportunities Portal and Grant Mail
- Miami-Dade County Grants Coordination has a Grant Opportunities Portal designed to meet the growing needs of local nonprofits, small businesses, governmental organizations, and local residents. The site offers its users direct access to a multitude of current grant opportunities in an online database; an interface with selective browsing capabilities, including key word search and funding category filtering options; real time posting of the latest grant opportunities; a free automated and subscriber-based weekly Grant Mail Newsletter providing email alerts of "ripe" funding opportunities from a variety of funding sources. Florida Hardest-Hit Fund (HHF)
- the federal government has allocated funding to help pay the mortgages of qualified homeowners who are unemployed or underemployed through no fault of their own. Homeowners who qualify for financial assistance may receive up to six (6) months of monthly mortgage payments (including escrowed mortgage-related payments) and/or funds to pay past due mortgage payments to bring the mortgage current; these funds are paid directly to the loan servicer/lender. Up2Us Sports-Based Youth Development Conference - 7/17/12, 9 am - 3 pm at the American Airlines Arena. Up2Us is hosting a free one-day youth sports conference to convene all local Miami stakeholders and to unite the youth sports community to network and discuss challenges and best practices around sports and youth development. The conference will educate Miami youth sports programs staff about Up2Us and the resources and services available to help build grassroots capacity. Up2Us will also train attendees on effectively managing youth sports programs through volunteerism, measurement and evaluation, building the workforce and saving money. Advocacy Supervisor - Part Time - Victim Response, Inc./The Lodge, is responsible for answering hotline calls and conduct screenings. He/she will conduct intakes, needs assessments and safety plans with participants according to State standards. Responsible for providing individual support and counseling to participants; and transport participants to and from shelter for appointments as appropriate. Must maintain all DCF and FCADV standards for service at all times. Applicant must have a high school diploma or comparable life experience in the field of domestic violence. This is an overnight position and applicant must have the ability to work a flexible schedule, which will include evenings, weekends and holidays. Bilingual English-Creole strongly preferred. Maintain the andar database of leadership and endowment contributors, reporting/analysis of data, produce the annual leadership book and wall. Coordinate and assist on all leadership events. Provide data analysis for various development areas. Manage and control the leadership and endowment operations of the development department with responsibilities including, but not limited to: report generation, database management, data mining/queries, data analysis, production of annual Leadership & Endowment Members Registry, Leadership & Endowment Recognition Wall, data entry, mailings, thank you letters, and the like. Demonstration School Master Teacher/Disabilities Coordinator, United Way Center for Excellence in Early Education, will report to the education director. The lead teacher, in conjunction with the Demonstration School director, is responsible for planning and coordinating the implementation of the Center’s education program for children ages 0-3 or 3-5. Ensuring that the mandates for federal, state and local licensing are met and the agency’s philosophy and curriculum are implemented along with United Way model’s core features.  Ensures all mandates of Head Start performance standards, state and local licensing are met. Provide a safe and nurturing environment that encourages children’s social, emotional, physical and intellectual development. Director, Public Relations, United Way of Miami-Dade, will report to the chief brand officer.  Serve as United Way liaison to South Florida media -- Hispanic and general market media. Work with news and social media outlets to place information regarding United Way activities, programs, initiatives and events. Develop and manage a pro-active bi-lingual public relations program focused on placing information about United Way and its programs in the marketplace.  Serve as an information resource to local media representatives and the public at large on issues regarding United Way, social services, philanthropy and other mission-related issues.  Arrange interviews between media representatives and United Way volunteer and staff leadership. Director, Tocqueville Society, Endowment & Planned Gifts, United Way of Miami-Dade, will report to the vice president of major gifts. This person will raise funds for Tocqueville Society and The Endowment from individuals that make charitable gifts and build relationships in the community to address the health and human services of the community through United Way of Miami-Dade. Manage and staff volunteers on the Tocqueville Cabinet to ensure they make their goal of raising $500,000 new dollars for United Way’s community plan. Execution and management of the planned giving/endowment initiatives that consist of, but are not limited to, cultivation/solicitation of individual gifts; development of individual gift proposals; incorporation of planned giving into campaign teams where appropriate; create/enhance planned giving services - internal/external services, financial planning seminars, educate on methods of gifting; promote awareness; develop and implement a variety of approaches to secure planned gifts by market segments to include but not limited to direct mail bequests program, insurance endowment program and efforts to endow all leadership gifts. Program Manager - The Healthy Start Coalition of Miami-Dade (HSCMD), is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the HSCMD outreach programs. VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

MDC Single Stop Mentoring Program, the program places a mentor and student in a two-year mentoring relationship to provide the student with the additional support needed to persist toward a college degree. For the mentor, it provides a volunteer opportunity tailored to fit the schedule of a working professional while providing the rewarding opportunity of assisting a student working toward their college degree. The process is simple - anyone living in the Miami area, who is 24 years or older and has completed a two-year college can apply. Fill out an application, attend a one-time mentor orientation and complete security screening. Once you have cleared these simple hurdles, you are matched with a student and will be expected to send one weekly email to your mentee and meet with them once a month at the MDC campus or MDC Single Stop sponsored event. Foster Care Review (FCR), is eager to recruit new citizen review panel volunteers to help make a difference in the lives of abused and abandoned children living in Miami-Dade's foster care system. Volunteer panel members spend one weekday per month reviewing the status of children and making recommendations to Miami's Juvenile Court and other concerned parties regarding each child's safety, well-being and permanency. FCR's volunteer panels provide caring and investigative oversight for each child, while information collected through our reviews helps FCR to advocate for system reform. FCR volunteers must be 25 years or older and must be a resident of Miami-Dade or Broward County. Background screening is required. No special skills are needed. Training will be provided. ReServe Miami, helps continuing professionals age 55+ reinvest a career's worth of skills to strengthen their communities. ReServe Miami connects the county's under-resourced nonprofits and public institutions (partners) to a large base of experienced professionals 55+ (ReServists) who want to give back. Miami Dade Military Service Partnership SSVF Program - Veterans Link Up, Inc. The SSVF program is part of the VA's commitment to end homelessness among veterans in the next five years. SSVF provides SHORT-TERM case management and supportive services to help low-income veterans and veteran families who qualify, obtain (or retain) permanent, stable housing. Eligibility requirements: veterans and veteran families who are low income (below 50% of the Average Median Income for Miami-Dade County) and National Guard members who have been deployed AND have received a DD214.
