Your organization may be eligible for the Small Business Health Care Tax Credit. If you are a small employer with fewer than 25 full-time equivalent employees, pay an average wage of less than $50,000 a year, and pay at least half of employee health insurance premiums, then there is a tax credit that may put money in your pocket. For tax years 2010 through 2013, the maximum credit is 35 percent for small business employers and 25 percent for small tax-exempt employers such as charities. According to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), there is good news for small tax-exempt employers too. The credit is refundable, so even if you have no taxable income, you may be eligible to receive the credit as a refund so long as it does not exceed your income tax withholding and Medicare tax liability. The IRS provides a number of online resources that can help your organization determine eligibility, estimate how much you might receive, and understand all the details.

Step Up For Students Scholarship 2013-2014 - Since 2002, more than 271,000 scholarships have been awarded to low-income Florida students in grades k-12. These scholarships were created by the Florida Legislature in 2001 to assure that low-income children have learning options. Under the law, the scholarships are based on financial need, not how well the child does in school. They are awarded on a first-come, first-served basis and can be transferred to other eligible schools if the student moves within the state, or simply wants to attend a different Step Up partner school. Students who qualify for the free or reduced school lunch program may qualify for a scholarship to a private school or for funds to help cover transportation costs to an out-of-district public school. For the 2012-13 school year, scholarships were valued up to $4,335 for private school tuition or $500 to help cover transportation costs to attend a public school in another district, typically another county. For more information, visit Step Up For Students or call (1-877) 735-7837.

Save money with the FamilyWize Prescription Drug Discount Card - The FamilyWize Prescription Drug Discount Card is being distributed by United Way of Miami-Dade. For people with no health insurance, or those who need medications not covered by their insurance plan, this card could lower the cost by an average of 30 percent. There are no age, income or residency restrictions, no limit on how many times you can use it and no waiting to get a card. Nearly 1,000 United Ways in all 50 states are supporting this effort. To date, we have saved Miami-Dade residents over $2.5 million on their prescription medications. Visit www.familywize.org to look up drug prices, participating pharmacies or to print additional cards for family, friends and co-workers.
