ts live longer and healthier lives, we are finding new ways to honor, celeb
rate and maximize contributions for older adults. Through Golden Wishes, Un
ited Way teams up with nonprofits and community groups to grant wishes for
special adults age 60+ who cannot pursue a wish on their own. Wishes are co
-created with agencies, companies, churches, civic groups, and others. Toge
ther, we aim to celebrate older adults who continue to go above and beyond
for their families, friends, community, or those who need a little extra he
lp to overcome a barrier. With every wish, we celebrate positive aging.\n\n
Golden Wish recipient Tomas Chavez is a 79-year old who studied agronomy in
Cuba. He lives in an apartment building and doesn't have access to many gr
een spaces. Commissioner Higgins Office from District 5 nominated Tomas for
our Golden Wishes program. Tomas wished for a community garden. In partner
ship with Riverside United Methodist Church which lent their property, we a
re set to plant the first community garden in Little Havana. We are looking
for volunteers to participate in the first phase of this project, a cleanu
p of the space that will become the community garden. \n\nUnited Way Miami
will provide gloves, beverages, and snacks.\n\nOpportunity Type: Individual
