Virtual Reading to Students
United Way of Miami-Dade

Lotus Village is an organization dedicated to improving the lives of homeless women, youth and children. They provide sanctuary, support, education, tools and resources that empower homeless women to heal, learn, grow and blossom into who they are truly meant to be. Utilizing an innovative, trauma-informed, holistic format, Lotus House provides shelter and multi-faceted, comprehensive supportive services, including access to medical and mental health care, parenting education, counseling and parent/child therapy, life skills and educational advancement, job readiness training, and a host of enrichment activities from art and acupuncture to yoga and meditation offering alternative pathways to healing.

Today, Lotus House houses over 250 women and children on a daily basis, where they are permitted to live free up to a year to give these fragile families the time and tools needed to heal, improve the quality of their lives on every level, achieve greater self-sufficiency, and transition to their new homes. They serve over 275 women and children on an annual basis.

In lieu of one-on-one in-person reading opportunities, United Way of Miami-Dade invites you to come read and engage with students at Lotus Village virtually. Volunteers will be reading Brown Bear Brown Bear, What Do You See?via Zoom. All literacy kits will be provided to students and volunteers.

Two shifts available at 9:00 AM and 10:00 AM. Volunteers must be able to pick-up their kits on April 7th.

305 Pink Pack is an organization that brings together community, advocacy, and hope to women in Miami-Dade going through active cancer treatment by providing them with free services that enable them to focus on healing and time with their families. They are currently searching for a volunteer who can support 2-3 hours a month to assist with bookkeeping. Must be experienced in Quickbooks Online, and preferable experience with non-profits. Some responsibilities include: bookkeeping, creating 990 forms at the end of fiscal year and help with auditing with regards to grants.

Food Distribution with Branches

Currently, we have a need for volunteers to respond to the impacts and community implications of the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19). Note that United Way of Miami-Dade continues to closely monitor and evaluate the situation to ensure we are taking necessary measures to protect the health and wellbeing of our volunteers. We will update you regarding the status of this volunteer opportunity should anything change.
Branches provides life-changing opportunities to help working families and their children break the cycle of generational poverty. We fulfill our mission by engaging children, youth and adults with life-changing opportunities for them to become better educated, become more financially stable and make long-term and positive life choices. Our focus is on student achievement, family services, and financial wellness and our programs serve children, youth, adults and families through our three respective program areas: Grow, Climb, and Achieve. Volunteers must be in good health, who have not been in contact with individuals showing signs of illness related to COVID-19, are needed to help distribute bulk food in our drive-thru distribution. Thursdays with multiple shifts available.

Filling Fridges with Health in the Hood

Health in the Hood connects communities to health and wellness, providing education, physical fitness classes and healthy eating opportunities for children and families in neighborhoods across Miami. Health in the Hood launched their emergency food relief program, Filling Fridges, to respond to the immediate need for food for displaced students and families. Volunteers in good health, who have not been in contact with individuals showing signs of illness related to COVID-19, are needed to to prepare produce bags for pull up pantries and school feeding programs. 9:30 AM - 12:00 PM

Support Our Food Pantry
Salvation Army - Miami Area Command

Volunteers are needed to pack groceries bags from our pantry for our clients to be distributed and support handing out the first 100 grocery bags to clients. Multiple shifts are available with varying responsibilities. Monday Volunteers will be packing grocery bags during both shifts Tuesday - Friday 8:30 AM - 12:00 PM Volunteers will supprt in distributing food to clients 1:00 PM - 3:30 PM Volunteers will be packing grocery bags Details -Once you park, go to the front office to sign in. At the Salvation Army, our doors are open every day, and night of the year. Through our emergency housing facilities, homeless shelters, transitional living centers, group homes, and family shelters, we provide over 10 million nights of lodging annually. In addition to supplying shelter from the elements, beds, food, and basic hygiene resources to those in need, we help combat long-term homelessness in America by serving homeless adults, veterans, and children with holistic physical, emotional, and spiritual support.
